Why Women Struggle to Rest - and Why Rest is so Necessary
Aug 26, 2022
From the earliest of ages, we are taught that human existence is a linear thing. We are born, we live, we age, we die; we are conditioned to believe we are given a finite period of time and it is always running out. We’ve been sold a lie, and it’s time that we started to embrace the cyclic nature of being a woman so that we can live a more vital, energised, fulfilling life.
We live in a world that is designed to move us from point A to point B. We are taught to strive, to seek success, and to keep pushing forward. No pain, no gain. No rest for the wicked. Onwards and upwards. We all have stories we tell ourselves, stories we have been conditioned to use as truth, that tell us we need to keep going regardless of how we are feeling.
In every single way possible, the universe reminds us that we are cyclic beings. Our circadian rhythms, from waking to sleep and back again, are cyclic. Just as the sun rises and sets each day, the moon rises and sets every month. With that lunar cycle, most of us will experience a menstrual cycle, even if we no longer bleed. Each year we live through four different seasons, and with each of those seasons our energy changes.
We are cyclic beings. While all of our conditioning and all of the systems we live within teach us that we are supposed to just keep going, to push forward even when we are nearing exhaustion, our very nature is calling us to rest. To replenish. To recover before the next push forward.
No matter which cycle we look at, there are four main phases, and each one asks different things of us - physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. When we live in alignment with these natural cycles, we allow ourselves to push forward when we have the energy to do so, and to rest when our energy wanes. Living in this cyclic way means that we have more energy to get things done, which creates more time and space for us to rest when we need to.
Accepting that we are cyclic beings is easy when we have so much evidence that the universe is cyclic too. The biggest challenge for us, however, is that our conditioning is so strong that we simply do not allow ourselves the grace or compassion to slow down as our energy wanes, to rest when our bodies tell us we need to, or to honour that need to balance our masculine desire for action with our feminine desire for creativity and expansiveness.
If you are someone who struggles to rest because the guilt is overwhelming, or because you simply can’t ask others for help, our upcoming free masterclass is for you. Over 90 minutes we will share how to find better balance through the four aspects of wellness, so that you can enjoy more time and energy for yourself and your family.
